Athena Embedded Media Player with Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 |
The new Athena Embedded Media Player computer from DSP Design is setting the standards for low power and high performance in providing DVD quality pictures for embedded systems.
The Athena AA1200 is a small footprint computer board designed to meet the exacting demands of the embedded media player market, it features high performance at low power whilst capable of playing source video content natively. Athena offers DVD quality pictures and provides image scaling to larger displays without compromising picture quality.
The Athena is based upon the latest AMD Alchemy processor, the Au1200, this remarkable processor provides ‘system on chip’ functionality, incorporating an integrated Media Acceleration Engine optimised for video to eliminate the need for DSPs (Digital Signal Processors) and specialized coding.
The low power and small footprint makes the Athena an ideal choice for applications where size or a single enclosure incorporating the display are required. The Athena is provided with Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 preinstalled, providing high levels of functionality with a familiar look and feel.
In addition to the great video support the board has all the features required in the Digital Signage market: Stereo sound, USB 2, Serial I/O, on-board flash, DRAM, IDE interface, Smbus and Compact Flash interface.
The low power consumption of the Athena also makes it ideal for use in kiosks, information signs, point-of-sale advertising, door entry systems and many others. It also lends itself for use in solar powered applications.
